Sohini Mukherjee

         Designer | Illustrator

I am a recent MFA graduate from the School of Visual Arts, College of Fine Arts at Boston University with a degree in Graphic Design. I previously completed my Bachelors in Industrial Design from Srishti Manipal Institute of Art, Design, and Technology with Textile design as my major and Furniture design as my minor.

My work incorporates the aesthetics, storytelling, material knowledge, and research-oriented methodology from my textile background into graphic design, user experience design, and illustration. I take inspiration from my day-to-day life and the authenticness of mundanity. My personal work is often a social-political-cultural commentary on my identity and experience of having lived in three cities.

I practice pluralism through design which stands for not being constrained by a certain field, style, medium, etc., but look at every project as an opportunity to experiment, learn and explore through the widest possible angles. In the past, I have experimented with social impact design, product design, user experience design, graphic design, type design, editorial design, animation, film making, textile design, furniture design, and fashion. My work is a confluence of all this robust array of experiences and knowledge which helps me make informed design choices and understand my clients/audiences' needs better.

Hailing from a textile background, I have an intense passion for patterns and love to look for them everywhere, be it form-making, or drawing connections with psychology, strategies, or visual systems. My love for materiality and user interaction often finds its way into my projects. I believe it is important for me to re-invent ways to engage my audience with my work and love to see how they reinterpret them through their own perspectives.
